7 Questions With Jesse

Jesse Marlet is the dutch freestyle football champion from 2018/2017. The consistency and difficulty has shown us that he is one of the best in the world at the moment, lets see what he has to share!

For how long have you been freestyling

I have been freestyling for 7 years now

how old are you

I am 21

Do you think style is more important than level?

I wouldn’t say style is more important than level. But i wouldn’t say level is more important than style either. I think style is very important since it can make tricks look so much better and it can also lose the value of tricks when you execute them in a unstylisch or unclean way.

Does you gear affects your freestyle?

For sure. For me gear is very important. If you notice I mostly battle in the same clothes because it gives me more confort. I prefer to wear short clothes so I can move easily.

What motivates you to go to training?

I have a very competitive mindset and my main focus is competing. This also motivates me the most, to try new tricks for competitions and to be better then my latest one.

Does music and musicality play a big role in your style as a freestyler?

I wouldn’t say a big role, sometimes I like to train on the music and sometimes it just comes during training because I like the song. I am a big fan of freestylers who use the music but because I am so focused on battling and with the system we use at the moment, I think its almost a disadvantage to listen to the music. Thats why I am a big fan of the no-timelimit system the sport is developing at the moment. It gives more freedome and you can envolve the music or other factors more!

What inspires you to be different

It is that my goal is to be one of the best. And I think you can only be that if you distinguish yourself from other freestylers with your own moves, style, attitude. If you want to be one of the best you have to create your own path and not follow someone elses. Thats what motivates me a lot to be different
